Wild Animals I Have Known
Ernest Thompson Seton
First published in 1898, these classic tales of the wild have entertained readers young and old for generations. Included are the celebrated stories that Rudyard Kipling acknowledged as having major influence on his own classic, The Jungle Book. Based on Seton's adventures in the Canadian forests and New Mexico desert country, these are among the most intriguing animal stories ever written: dramatic, astonishing, sometimes tragic, and occasionally heroic-all are facinating.

Old Lobo, or the King, as the Mexicans called him, was the gigantic leader of a remarkable pack or gray wolves, that had ravaged the Currumpaw Valley for a number of years. All the shepherds and ranchmen knew him well, and whenever he appeared with his trusty band terror reigned supreme among the cattle, and wrath and despair among their owners.
The mares were gentle, and would have been easily driven homeward but for new and unexpected thing. The Black Stallion became greatly aroused. He seemed to inspire them too with his wildness and, flying this way and that way, drove the whole band at full gallop where he would. Away they went, and the little cowponies that carried the men were easily left behind
Bio: ERNEST THOMPSON SETON wrote and illustrated over forty books with the scientific knowledge of a naturalist, the eye of an artist, and the practical wisdom of a woodsman.
