Snowman in July, A

Gary Bolick

A Snowman in July is a story that starts with the main character's death and works backward to create his life. Zeb, age twenty, is at his own hanging on a remote island in North Carolina. Why he is being hanged is unknown, but, by the end of A Snowman in July Bolick demonstrated his keen observance of other people and takes you on a ride through Zeb's life-it will truly be the ride of your life.

In Bolick's words:

"When you have two hangings, a nearsighted hunting dog trying to mate with a lynx, a blind, aged black man who...sees the beauty inherent in life, an executioner who uses his pet turtle to seduce women...and a young man who becomes a conduit for the reader to explore how myth and reality set free the worst in mankind, only to have it rebound and survive, it's a story worth the reader's time."

Excerpt from A SNOWMAN IN JULY:

"This is where I was to cast my stone, my lot into the mouth of heaven and fly, he continued to muse as he looked over at the fresh water pool on the tiny island where he stood, and then back across the river at the massive crowd gathered to see him hanged."
