Queen of the Strip

L. J. Brooksby

After four years at a school back East, Rita Jackson is finally returning home to the Arizona Strip, intent on being a cowgirl at her father's ranch. During her trip, Rita's train is robbed by the notorious Arizona Kid and his gang. While the passengers await help, Rita is approached by the Kid, who unwittingly reveals that Rita's father was injured by a bull and now owns a saloon in town called the Golden Palace. The Kid offers her a ride to the nearest cattle ranch, owned by friends of Rita's, so she can rush to her father's side...

"Two other men, their faces also covered, shoved into the car carrying small gunnysacks. Moving quickly among the passengers, they collected money, watches, jewelry, and anything else that looked valuable....

"When the thieves were almost finished, a loud explosion from the baggage car rocked the train....The safe had been blown. The tall slim man smiled at the passengers. Tipping his hat toward a young girl, he gave a slight bow and said: 'Have a pleasant trip to your destination, Ma'am.'

"The two men with the gunnysacks passed out the rear door as he whirled and disappeared over the back railing of the car. It wasn't long before the passengers saw eight horses with riders leave the train and gallop away through the trees."
