Primal Scenes

Richard Geha

A collection of short stories that grasp the senses, Primal Scenes is a masterful demonstration of human emotion, written by a professional in the field. Simple occurrences in an adult life - sexual, sensual, or otherwise - can devastate a child, if witnessed too young. Primal Scenes explores the ramifications of children seeing adult worlds through young eyes. A primal scene, as described by the author, is a real or imagined event that profoundly affects the psyche; after reading Primal Scenes you may be affected just as profoundly.

"Their beds were close enough so that they could reach over and hold hands, and often they would do that, placing their hands on a chair positioned between the two beds, and sometimes Patrick would wake in the middle of the night and find their hands...still joined...Once his father had inquired quizzically, 'How long can you laugh in the dark like this?' As it turned out, the answer was 'not long.'"

From the short story First Love Comes Last
