I Love You, Kate
Juli Norris
An inspiring novel about loving and letting go.
Kyle and Katelynn had the kind of love that could last for a hundred years, through struggling careers or mid-life crisis, through tragedy or splendor. They were determined to spend their lives together no matter what stumbling block was thrown in their way. Death was the only thing that could stop them. And when Kyle was killed suddenly by a drunk driver, it did. For three years Katelynn lived the same way she did when Kyle was alive-she stuck to the same routine and put up walls to block herself from the rest of the world. And then she met Jack. She had to find a way to open herself to love Jack for who he is, to let go of Kyle and his haunting memory.
"Off in the distance, I heard sirens and I wondered how long I had been blacked out. Gritting my teeth to resist the pain, I slowly got to my feet and headed over toward our car. As I came around to the front I could hardly believe my eyes. The windows had been broken out, including the windshield, and the front passenger seat was nothing more than a twisted mass of blue metal.
"I hurried around to the driver's side. There Kyle was, still strapped in the seat with layers of blue steel wrapped all around him. His eyes were closed and his breathing was quick and shallow. He had the beginning of a large bruise on his forehead where he must have hit the steering wheel or the windshield with his head.
"I frantically took hold of the door handle, pulling on it with all my might, but the door wouldn't open. It was jammed.
"'Kate!' Kyle called out as his head bobbed back and forth.
"'I'm right here, Honey.'"
