Doll for Amy, A
Anna Mavrikis
The Russells are a happy family - to an outsider. Joann's husband Paul is so involved with work that he has little time or inclination to be a father for eight-year-old Amy. Scott, two years younger, gets a little of his father's attention, only because he's a boy. Against Joann's wishes, Paul brings a pistol into the house - with most terrible consequences. When the children are playing, the gun is accidentally fired and Amy is shot. She recovers, but is paralyed from the waist down. In the wake of this crisis, Paul reveals his tru colors as uncaring and totally self-serving. With the help of a pair of generous-hearted neighbors, it's up to Joann to be both mother and father to Scott and brave little Amy, who needs all the love and support Joann can give her. Together the two of them realize a need for toys for handicapped children. Joann spearheads a cause to manufacture dolls that physically-challenged kids can relate to. In the process, she suffers the wrath of Paul and finds a worty man's love.
