Crossbow Murder, The
Wayne Minnick
Atlanta homicide police detectives Wade Davis and Leda Fulford, sometime lovers, investigate the murder by crossbow bolt of wealthy local philanderer Harry Paulson. Suspects in the case include Lucinda Paulson, Harry's widow; their voluptuous teenage daughter Gretchen; Cheryl Hargert, Paulson's jilted ex-secretary; Roger Godwin, Paulson's business associate; and animal rights activist Basil Gearhart.
Kimberly and her mother continued to sit and stare at one another in silence. Finally Lucinda said, "You find it hard to believe your father was unfaithful, don't you?" "How can you be so sure of something like that?" Kimberly asked. "Maybe it was just your imagination. How do you know there were other women?" Like Greta, she sprang to her feet and fled from the room. Lucinda stared into space, her face twisted with pain. The old adage about the pot calling the kettle black rang in her mind. She was certain that one of them knew, without question, the name of the woman Harry Paulson was playing around with when he was killed. What a mess, she thought.
