Butcher Bird
Wayne Minnick
Marygold McAllister is fishing one day when she catches something she has never seen before-a severed arm. She takes her catch to the police, where a detective embarks upon a search for missing answers. Where this detective, Wade Davis, is going nobody knows, but he ends up in a dark world of sexual perversion and related deaths. As Davis and his partner close in on this crime, more deaths ensue-those of two men who had threatened the exposure of the murderer. Who lives, who dies, who kills, who solves? It's in The Butcher Bird.
Davis recoiled at the prospect of touching the odious thing, but he forced himself to poke at it gingerly. He guessed it was from a human female. It had a small wrist and slender fingers; its nails were covered with red polished. He guessed it was the hand of an adolescent or a young woman. Wrapped around it was what looked like strips of lead.
Bio: WAYNE MINNICK holds a Ph.D. in Speech Communication from Northwestern University, is a professor emeritus at Florida State University, and was an associate professor at Northwestern University. He began writing short stories and mysteries upon retirement.
