Baccarat: Nine Lives South of Boona

Mark Broderick

The goings on of the gods will never again be musty ancient history. Sexual and celestial high jinks, missing humidors, dirty hands and dirty smiles, an underworld mail carrier, extortion, high stakes croquet...all offer the intrepid reader a feast for the mind-and the senses. Let the play begin. Baccarat!

Her thoughts sputtered like a beached porpoise...she should avoid him. The stained glass ceiling in the main bath of Her Bathhouse reflected her predicament-a seafaring god's stare covered her, indifferent to her plight as well as to his brother's seemingly inevitable conquest. Against mortals, gods stuck together; the younger gods-Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus-used humans like fishing lures, casting them into each other's domain. One god might steal a chunk of sky from another or maybe even misplace a pool of brimstone, but bet double down on a human gambling against a god? No odds on such impossibility!

Bio: MARK BRODERICK was raised in a small, yet cosmopolitan town in Wisconsin and holds a degree in creative writing from the University of Wisconsin. He has sold insurance door-to-door, managed a restaurant and survived the stock market while producing over three hundred non-profit and corporate special events.
